Splitting Pairs on Blackjack – Yes or No?
When you are on blackjack game here is one of available options for you: split your pair. In this article we will try to give an answer on question about why actually players decide to split pair and does it really make sense to do this.
To start with, let us to make it clear what actually “split pairs” means. Imagine that you are playing Blackjack with standard table rules, and you were dealt a pair: 5-5, 7-7, 10-10 or other. Do not forget, that cards should have “the same value”. It means that you may split 10-K. In Blackjack, when you have the hand of that type – you may break the pair, double your bet and play these cards as separate to play more hands.
You also can split a pair of Aces been dealt to you, but there could be slight differences in Blackjack table rules, for example in some online casinos players are able to draw only ONE addition card to each of their Aces. And if player were dealt a card with “10” value to the Ace, it won’t be considered as Blackjack, but as “21” and player will get paid 1:1 to their bet. And even more: this hand won’t be enough to win if the dealer has a Blackjack.
So why split cards in Blackjack? It’s the question that certainly shouldn’t be left unanswered.
The main reason for splitting pairs is that your initial hand is not strong enough to feel yourself comfortable at the table. For example, if you have a pair of sevens against of dealer’s eight – you’d better to split. At least, you could get 17’s on every hand, or even soft 18 if an Ace will come up.
The second reason – by doing split pair you double your bet, especially in case you have pair of Aces against the dealer’s six.
And the last reason (last, but not least) is that by splitting cards in the right moment you could decrease house edge, sometimes down by approximately 0.5%. In the long run I could cost you a lot of money saved.
