European Rules Blackjack

European Blackjack online is much like the American version with a few different rules. The game is played with two decks, and is very easy to learn.

The game of blackjack is one of the oldest, and most popular online casino games today. Known for being easy to play, and profitable, it is a player favourite and the variations of the game continue to grow.

The game starts when players place their bet, once that is done the dealer will deal two cards to each player, and themselves.

The basic idea of blackjack games is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over. Card values are easy to learn. Face cards are valued at 10 and all numbered cards are valued on their number. For example, if you are dealt a 9 and a 2 you would have 11, it’s basic math. The Ace card can be valued at either 1 or 11 it’s basically the players’ choice. If you get an ace and a face card, it’s automatic blackjack. If the dealer gets blackjack all player bets, double downs, and raises are lost.

If you are dealt a good hand, 17 for example, you may wish to “Stand”. Meaning you are happy with your cards, and would like to keep the hand you have.

If you would like another card, you may “Hit”, but be careful not to bust. Players can do this when they aren’t happy with the total they were dealt, like having a low total and would like to get closer to 21. If your next card dealt makes your hand total over 21 you bust out and all bets are lost.

If you get a pair of cards, you may split them into their own hands, so it’s as if you are playing two hands at one time. Each hand has it’s own bet, and could either win or lose. When you double down you automatically place another bet on the second hand.

If you are really confident in your hand, you may double down and receive another card. Please keep in mind that in European Rules Blackjack you may only double on hands equalling 9, 10, or 11.

If you and the dealers hands tie, it’s called a “Push”, even if both hands are blackjack (21).

If you should get a blackjack you are paid at odds of 3 to 2.

Here are the differences in European Rules Blackjack:

  • Dealer stands on a “soft” 17 (A with 6)
  • Players can only double down on hands that total 9, 10, or 11
  • Players may draw additional cards when splitting Aces
